Baza is a fairly large Town with a population of 21,000. Situated an hour East of Granada and an hour inland from the Coast, it's a great location to get involved in real Spanish life, but not too far away from the culture and excitement of a busy City nor the fun and liveliness of the Costas.
Having lived in the area for two years, I have come to appreciate the beauty of the region, with the fabulous Jabalcon mountain pictured below and the amazing Azure blue lakes of both Negratin and Castril.
Whatever it is you enjoy, this is the perfect location for all number of sporting activities, including Mountain Biking, Trekking, Horse Riding, Paragliging and Hang Gliding, Kayaking, Camping, Sailing, Fishing and Quad Biking to name a few. The Ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada, which can be seen from Jabalcon on a clear day, are also only 90 minutes drive away.
The nearest airport is Granada which is only 75 minutes drive away and is a very easy drive on the Motorway. Almeria is also close at 90 minutes drive and further a field you can reach both Alicante and Malaga airports in two and a half hours.
Baza Feria is celebrated every year from the 6th to the 15th September. There is a local Market every week on a Wednesday where one can buy local produce as well as clothes, shoes and bedding. There is a Hospital and several Schools, Supermarkets, Doctors, Dentists, a Municipal Swimming Pool, Bus Station, Hotels, Garages, Bars and Restaurants etc
